Approved and Scheduled

Roy got the go-ahead for his Transplant Evaluation yesterday and the go-ahead for his HHC Treatment this morning. We do not yet have the results from his Chest CT but it was a relatively quick in-and-out to northwest Houston for that. Today we ran in-town errands for him including getting that blue hang tag for parking so that when we do go places, he can be parked closer and won’t have to struggle as much walking to and fro.

He goes for Phase 1 of the Y-90 treatment on March 16. Phase 1 is when they do an angiogram at interventional radiology to map where the treatment will go when applied. He will be sedated and still while they insert a catheter and slither it up to the liver. They will use some dye to make sure what’s inserted later will go where they think it will go and they will do some blocking (aka “coiling”) if necessary to keep the radiation from going into places that they do not want it to go. He shouldn’t feel any worse than normal after this phase.

He goes for Phase 2 of the Y-90 treatment on March 27. This is the part where they do the sedation and snaking in of the catheter again to release the little beads of radioactive material. At that point, he might feel like he has the flu, have a little fever and some nausea, an extra helping of exhaustion (he’s usually exhausted anyway), and maybe a little pain around his liver up into his shoulder.

Transplant Evaluation will be on April 6 and April 7. That includes a menu of courses, meetings, and tests/measures of all the major systems: cardiac, pulmonary, skeletal, and MRI of the abdomen.

We do not have the Chest CT results yet.

The bluebonnets were popping up but not yet quite over the tops of the grass along the highway. Maybe when we go back again, they will be really visible.

Sounds like things are finally moving, and pretty fast (from my very limited/non-existent experience). Hope all the Y90 prep and insertion goes well.
