Sitting in the Emergency Department waiting room waiting. They’ve checked his vitals and he’s dozing until someone can do labs. So far, I’m here with Roy and not Not-Roy, so that’s a plus.
His visit to Methodist hepatology reassured us that Roy is doing the correct things, his medications are at the correct level, and someone is going to pay attention. He is carrying extra fluid weight and got to have extra labs done at Smith lab before we headed home. He’s scheduled to repeat those in two weeks and to see hepatology again in a month – still aiming to shrink the cancer and head toward transplant.
So why are we here? Well, those labs came back yesterday around 4 pm. That’s not the best time of day to get medical guidance – people are leaving their offices by then, phones go to voice mail, and the nurses we could reach said to talk to the provider unless Roy was symptomatic – he wasn’t. So voicemails and My Chart messages had to do the work.
This morning returned calls and messages said go to Urgent Care and then go to the Emergency Department – they need to check his labs again. So here we are. The ED doctor said if his sodium was still as low then he will be admitted. His sodium is at 125. His albumin is also low at 2.7. So there will be labs and we will see what is what.
