One Screw and 5.5

Friday’s paracentesis (ultrasound-guided removal of fluid from the abdomen) yielded more than the IR doctor anticipated – he said, maybe a liter, but it ended up being 5.5 liters which weighs a bit more than 12 pounds. Thanks to his new PCP, Roy has a standing order that would allow him to have this weekly if needed at the local hospital; he’s not yet ready to schedule it on a regular basis. Roy feels better able to move around.

I have been defeated by the last screw, type C, in the assembly of the last seat of a set of three bar stools. I cut open the liner on the bottom of the seat to find that the manufacturer did not drill that hole. Although Charles and Henry have decided that these bar stools are quite nice for napping, the manufacturer asked that they be returned to be replaced. I am not sure what kind of manufacturing model doesn’t have spare parts on hand for just this kind of situation, but they do not. The barstools have now been disassembled completely and repacked into their original box – luckily I still had most of the packing materials in the recycling bin. I await notice of when some poor delivery person will come to get this box and take it away. I have gotten sufficient practice with the dratted Allen wrench now – putting that set together, if all the holes are drilled (please, pretty please), will be quick. One screw.

Roy had PT today and he just got scheduled with nephrology for August 19. He has his next infusion on Thursday. In the meantime, we will be tackling the closing out of his dad’s estate and, armed with a new shredder, I am incrementally shredding the backlog of old bills and assorted junk mail for recycling. Roy is mostly resting. While he felt better after the paracentesis, his body has to adjust.
